Concrete Polishing
Polished Concrete Floors
Why install new flooring when a beautiful, durable floor is already under your feet? Our expert team can transform even the oldest concrete slabs into works of art that will last your entire lifetime.
What Is Polished Concrete?
Polished concrete is a method of creating a decorative and protective floor by grinding a concrete slab with finer and finer polishing wheels. New tools and techniques have made concrete polishing one of the most popular flooring types for large commercial buildings, but it’s also favoured for a modern look in residential settings.
A polished concrete surface can be finished to several gloss levels, show off underlying aggregate like stone or glass, or offer any slip-resistance level for your needs. The polishing process hardens the top layer of your concrete, making it last longer and resist stains.
Concrete Polishing Process
Concrete Fusion is the leading expert in polished concrete in our area, having mastered our process over the years. Our guaranteed process involves a few steps, including:
- Repairing Damage — We’ll fill cracks and ensure the surface is ready for polishing.
- Grinding Top Layer — Our technicians pass over the entire surface with a rough grinder, taking off a fine layer, opening pores and readying the surface for polishing.
- Surface Honing — Using 100–300 grit diamond abrasives, we make initial passes to remove deeper scratches and create a smooth surface to polish.
- Polishing — Using 400 up to 4000 grit diamond abrasives, we put a fine shine and any gloss level into your surface.
- Grouting — We fill tiny surface pores with a special concrete mixture to create a waterproof surface.
- Densifying — Our team applies a hardening liquid, chemically altering the surface to make it more dense and resistant to damage.
- Sealing —- Concrete Fusion adds a sealant to the surface, protecting it from stains, with the possibility to alter the darkness, change colour, and more!
Is Polished Concrete Slippery?
Our experts can finish your polished concrete to any non-slip level to comply with safety regulations. While it looks slippery, it’s no more slip-prone than other flooring types like epoxy or unfinished concrete.
When polished concrete gets wet, it can get slippery. But this is no different than most flooring types, and liquid spills should always be cleaned up fast for safety.
